Elva Breen - Vocational Assessment & Occupational Therapy

Elva Breen graduated from Trinity College, Dublin as an Occupational Therapist in 1999. She is a state registered Occupational Therapist and is a member of The Irish Association of Occupational Therapists and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.

Elva has over 20 years of clinical experience. During her career, she has worked in the areas of Spinal Cord Injury, Acquired Brain Injury, Vocational Rehabilitation, Discharge Liaison, Pain Management, Neuro Rehabilitation, Amputee Rehabilitation, Palliative care, Care of the Elderly and Primary Care. She commenced her private practice in 2009.

While working in the area of Vocational Rehabilitation, Elva completed a Diploma in Personnel Management from the National College of Ireland. In order to gain a better understanding of work from the employer’s perspective, she completed IBEC’s graduate trainee programme and worked in the area of industrial relations.

Elva has a keen interest in chronic pain and its impact on everyday function. She has an MSc in Neurorehabilitation from Brunel University, London. As part of this MSc she carried out research on the impact chronic neuropathic pain has on individuals living with a spinal cord injury.

Throughout her career as a Senior Occupational Therapist, she has supervised staff grade Occupational Therapists and has completed numerous professional courses. She holds a certificate in Functional Capacity Evaluation. Elva lectures on the area of vocational rehabilitation to final year occupational therapy students and has written numerous articles for Ireland’s Spinal Cord Injury Magazine.
